The air is a little bit crisper, and the nights are about to get a little bit longer, today is the first day of fall otherwise known as the Autumn Equinox.
The Autumn Equinox marks the first day of the autumn season and it occurs when the sun crosses the equator moving from the northern hemisphere to the southern. Autumnal Equinox is the only time during the year when the length of the day and night is exactly the same.
Traditionally the Autumn Equinox is celebrated with a harvest feast to celebrate the season’s abundance. Plan a meal for today that uses seasonal and symbolic fruits and veggies. You can serve bread, squash, corn, apples, cider, and wine. You can decorate the table with colorful autumn leaves, fruits of the harvest, wildflowers, acorns, nuts, berries, and anything else that represents the harvest to you.
It’s also a great time to go for a hike, as the leaves begin to change and drop.
