10.2. cars are people, too?

History has given us cars named Herbie (The Love Bug), Kit (Knight Rider), Striped Tomato (Starsky & Hutch), and Wagon Queen Family Truckster (National Lampoon’s Vacation), and today is the day that your car can join their ranks. Today is Name Your Car Day.

We Americans spend a lot of time with our cars. We spend a lot of time and money taking care of them, and they tend to take on a life of their own, each developing their own unique personality. Name Your Car Day is a day set aside to honor that uniqueness.

So if you haven’t already, spend some time today to come up with a great name for your car.

Here are some tips:

  • First thing you need to pick a gender.
  • Don’t pick out any wimpy names. Don’t want to give your car a complex, do you?
  • Pick a name that reflects your cars personality. Strong aggressive names to cars with powerful engines; sleek and sexy names to feline-like cars; pickup trucks get country names; luxury cars need lavish names.
  • Pick a name that reflects your personality, too.
  • Pick out a name the other cars in the parking lot will respect.
  • Stick to names that are positive and upbeat.
  • Old junkers are just happy to still be around, you can name them anything.
  • Have fun with it. Who wants to name their car “Joe” or “Jane?”
