Time to get silly, time to get mad, today is Mad Hatter Day.

The Mad Hatter is a fictional character depicted in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The Mad Hatter was always acting silly, so it is only fitting that we all act a little nutty today.

Mad Hatter Day is the creation of a group of computer folk in Boulder, Colorado back in 1986 that really had nothing better to do. But why the sixth of October? The Mad Hatter in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland had a slip of paper stuck in his hat. The paper read “In this style, 10/6.” Just a reminder to act like a mad hatter on October 6.

And in a nice little twist, Mad Hatter Day is almost halfway ‘round the year form April Fools’ Day. Leave the pranks at home, however, and just stick to silly.
